As a professional, make it your selfish motive to stay at par with the Industry, and read reports, and presentations on patent landscape studies from other organisations.
A 'duh!' way to do this would be searching for
Google Query: "patent landscape" "report" filetype:pdf
Even WIPO has some published reports to read. Link.
While reading a report notice the following:
1. Is there a representation that you are unaware of / haven't worked on
2. Is there an explanation to how it was done (good reports usually have this in footnotes / appendices)
Once you find a good representation / graph / visual and also some hint on how it was done, try to reproduce it first at home, and then at work.
