Jaguar Land Rover Researchers Trying to Read Driver's Mind! > Brainwave based concentration monitoring

Reading about Jaguar Land Rover's road safety 'Sixth Sense' research project - using the driver's brainwaves to detect concentration level and awareness, got me thinking about this concept of reading and altering brainwaves, and its use in cars.

Turns out, this is one of the hot topics today for the next generation of smart cars.
Johnson Automotive has a filed a patent application on one similar concept, titled 'Method and apparatus for monitoring and control alertness of a driver'.
There are even filings with no application specific to automotive on specific brain sensors with electrodes patched on to the scalp.

Patent filings also hint towards an emergency braking system with inputs from drivers brain waves and muscle tone information, and a fatigue monitoring device and an alarm system based on the brain waves of the driver.
Effects of music, specific beats, and meditation on altering the awareness state and brain waves of an individual are very well known. It will be interesting to see this live in action in a car soon.
