Blackberry basic patent - Overview of patents of Research in Motion

Today when I looked at my blinking blackberry i thought it must be telling me something, probably telling me to give it a post it deserves.

BlackBerry mobile communication device was created by Research in Motion (RIM) of Waterloo, Ontario. RIM was founded in 1984 by two engineering students, one each from the Universities of Waterloo and of Windsor.

So in this post we will identify the first patent of the first model developed by RIM. Also we would try to identify the innovation process starting from the basic patent.

In 1998, RIM produced a wireless handheld called the RIM 950 which handled e-mail, contacts, and calendaring with a built-in QWERTY keyboard.

It has patents covering the minutest details of its products and technology, as well as new developments. Such as Automatic gain control system, antenna, protective case ...
We can consider RIM as an example of a innovating company focussing tremendously on Intellectual property
